The menopause can create a range of challenging side effects and for women going through this natural life stage it's important to remember the value of opening up to trusted people and not feeling embarrassed of lesser-spoken about but absolutely normal issues like urinary incontinence.

“Along with flushes, sweats and now anxiety and mood problems, urinary problems has got to be in the top five, if not three [most common] side effects. Virtually every woman [I see] has an increase in bladder symptoms, it is very very common,” said Dr Anne Henderson, guest expert at Health & Her, Consultant Gynaecologist, and Menopause Specialist.

“That may help somebody to deal with the embarrassment, if they think virtually everybody else is dealing with it too then it doesn’t seem quite such an embarrassing or stigmatising problem” she added.
Why does urinary incontinence happen during the menopause?

Urinary stress incontinence has a peak incidence around the peri-menopause and menopause, and according to Dr Henderson there are some key factors in determining whether or not a woman will probably have issues.

Incontinence shouldn't keep you out of the pool, but you may have to plan for proper protection for the health and safety of everyone.

Urine is mostly sterile and does not need any special care, but if you want some light protection on the way to the pool Swimmates disposable swim pants is a great option. They don't swell up like a diaper or standard pull-up but offer just enough absorbency to keep you dry until you're all wet anyway!

PHOENIX — Answering pleas of parents of disabled adult children, a Senate panel resurrected legislation Wednesday to require that new or extensively remodeled bathrooms in public buildings have suitable changing stations so they don’t have to put their children on bathroom floors.

HB 2113 is similar to another measure that had gained unanimous approval last month in a House committee. But that legislation stalled after Rep. Anthony Kern, R-Glendale, refused to schedule a similar proposal for a hearing in the House Rules Committee, which he chairs.

So Rep. Richard Andrade, D-Glendale, agreed to scale back the scope of his measure, exempting privately owned buildings from the new mandate.
